Are you building your loyal customer base?

    Should we resort to the good old days when you could walk into a general store and people greeted you by name. These are the messages that social media enthusiasts are touting:     

  1. Engage your customers
  2. Establish trust
  3. Cull a loyal following (a target audience)

    In the old days, that meant Mr. Folger bought some feed from the general store. He sold his fattened cattle to Mr. MacDonald who said, your cows are the best beef I have ever tasted. What do you feed them?

    Now you must work harder to establish trust and build your loyal following while you sleep! What?  How are you marketing your products and services while you sleep? All the big brands are pushing their products day and night with specials, promotions, giveaways and special events. What are you doing to further your business and prospects TODAY?  

    Does that mean you need to schmooze? Not quite! Do not underestimate today's savvy customers! They see through schmoozers and gimmicks!  Your brand should revolve around growing your customer's trust. As Tom Varjan, a business marketing consultant, explains in this article,"Branding’s goal, then, is to create customer loyalty".

    Recommend your products with a features and benefits article, answer industry related questions, encourage new business by asking your loyal customers to pass the word. After all, that is what is making Facebook so wildly popular.  Do you cull your followers, fans, and contacts to those that are most interested in your target message? You'll find that price isn't always the qualifying factor. Often, a customer will keep coming back to your store because it is conveniently located, you have genuine interest in your customers and you offer better service. 

   If we return to the general store example, the storekeeper took time to know his customers by name and talk to them on the topics they were interested in.  If your loyal customers keep coming back because you have the best golf  tips, then you've got more than one target market and you can create themes, brands, newsletters, blogs and captions based on these best interests.

    Got the message? Then turn it on and start delivering your message  to your target market with new, trust-building methods!
